Our Team
The Clinic for Emotional Health (CEH) is co-directed by Dr. Christal L. Badour and Dr. Shannon Sauer-Zavala, licensed clinical psychologists and faculty members in the Department of Psychology who are committed to advancing evidence-based mental health care through research, training, and clinical service.
The clinic is staffed by a multidisciplinary team that includes professional staff, post-doctoral fellows, doctoral students in clinical psychology, and undergraduate research assistants.
Doctoral student clinicians at CEH receive intensive, supervised training in evidence-based assessment and psychotherapy while providing care within the context of ongoing research aimed at improving mental health treatments.
Undergraduate research assistants play a vital role in supporting both research and clinical operations, gaining hands-on experience in the research process and clinical administration. Through this involvement, students develop foundational skills, explore career paths in mental health and related fields, and prepare for the next stage of their academic and professional training.

The University of Kentucky Clinic for Emotional Health (CEH) was founded in 2019 by Dr. Shannon Sauer-Zavala (left), Dr. Thomas G. Adams Jr., (middle), and Dr. Christal L. Badour (right). Dr. Adams is now an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale University, though he remains a close collaborator with CEH faculty.
