Leadership

Drs. Adams, Badour, and Sauer-Zavala co-founded the Clinic for Emotional Health (CEH) with the mission to improve the lives of people with mental health difficulties, as well as those who have been victims of violence or other traumatic events. We seek to carry out this mission by promoting the integration of the three foundational pillars: 1) expanding access to evidence-based treatment, 2) training future treatment providers, and 3) conducting cutting edge clinical research.

Director of Clinical Services: Dr. Shannon Sauer-Zavala
The Director of Clinical Services is responsible for ensuring that patients seeking research-based treatment at CEH receive the highest quality care. This involves overseeing intake assessment and triaging participants to the open research studies that best fit their needs. The Director of Clinical Services ensures staff maintains empathetic and professional attitudes toward all patients and family members, as well as to fellow employees.

Director of Education and Training: Dr. Christal Badour
The Director of Education and Training is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the training of post-doctoral fellows, pre-doctoral graduate students, undergraduate student interns or research assistants, and other clinic staff working in the CEH to ensure that our Clinic provides high quality, hands-on training, and supervision in the practical integration of clinical science and practice. This involves developing and reviewing Clinic training procedures, facilitating supervision of trainee-provided clinical services, coordinating didactic education focused on delivery and scientific evaluation of evidence-based interventions, and ensuring trainees receive ongoing instruction in methods for ethical implementation of clinical services and research.

Director of Research: Dr. Tom Adams
The Director of Research is responsible for ensuring that the research activities of the CEH are in adherence with the Clinic’s mission and with the core values of science - objectivity, honesty, openness, fairness, accountability, and stewardship (NAS, 2017). This involves ensuring the responsible conduct of research throughout the CEH and the monitoring of data to protect the safety of participants and the reliability and validity of the data. This Director of Research is also responsible for the oversight of standardized patient recruitment and assessment procedures, data tracking and monitoring of patient outcomes, and select collaborative studies. Dr. Adams works in close collaboration with Drs. Sauer-Zavala and Badour to integrate research protocols with treatment services and training initiatives.
